SPECIFIC TARGETED RESEARCH PROJECT
IN THE NMP PRIORITY

 Milestones / Output

Months 1-12: Fabrication and characterisation of template surfaces

  • Synthesis of a set of prototype anchor and connector molecules
  • Theoretical analysis of template surface and prototype molecule properties

Milestone 1 :

  • Formulation of standard recipes for the reproducible preparation of template surfaces to be used for the study of site-selective adsorption of molecules

Months 13-18:

  • Investigation of site selectivity of template surfaces with respect to prototype molecules
  • Characterisation of mobility of adsorbed molecular species and its dependency on molecular size and type of substitution
  • Synthesis of differently substituted and functionalised molecular building blocks

Milestone 2 :

  • Demonstration of the first site-specific adsorption of molecular species to pre-defined locations on template surface.

Months 19-24:

  • Synthesis of specifically functionalised and substituted anchor molecules
  • Synthesis of connector molecules of varying length and chemical functionality
  • Investigation of site selectivity of template surfaces with respect to functionalised molecules
  • Investigation of interaction selectivity of anchor and connector molecules
  • Theoretical analysis of bonding sites and intermolecular interactions

Milestone 3 :

  • Identification of the most promising combination of molecular building blocks and template surface to be used for the next phase of the project

Months 25-33:

  • Optimisation of molecular building blocks with respect to functionality
  • Theoretical analysis of intermolecular interactions and assembly
  • Fabrication of binary supramolecular networks and characterisation of their structural and electronic properties, investigation of temperature stability and phase transitions

Milestone 4 :

  • Formation and characterisation of binary extended two-dimensional supramolecular network of anchor and connector molecules on template surface

Months 34-35:

  • Optimisation of molecular building blocks with respect to functionality
  • Theoretical analysis of intermolecular interactions and assembly
  • Fabrication of binary supramolecular networks and characterisation of their structural and electronic properties, investigation of temperature stability and phase transitions

Month 36:

  • Final report
  • Evaluation of progress achieved
  • Preparation of the continuation of the project
